Bio

Alexandre Garcia was born in October 28, 1975. Raised in the suburbs of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Alexandre was always very interested in learning martial arts. At age 9, he started taking Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes in a nearby catholic school. That had been Alexandre’s first contact with Jiu-Jitsu.

A while later, Alexandre attended a seminar hosted by Royler Gracie (one of the members of the family who developed the sport), and found out that one of Royler’s students (Professor Marcão) had just opened a school, in which he started training.

In December 2002, Alexandre got to South Lake Tahoe where he lived for a couple years. On a trip to Reno, Alexandre met his wife and decided to move there, where he also opened a small business to get his life going. After establishing himself in town, Alexandre, moved by his passion for the sport, sought to start training again. Still under the Gracie family, he trained hard for several years, got his brown belt, and, very confident of his skills, started teaching Jiu-Jitsu at Sports West Athletic Club. Right on the beginning of his experience in training other people, Alexandre was sure that teaching BJJ was what he really loved doing and what he wanted to be his life.

Alexandre Garcia has already won several international tournaments as well as tournaments in the United States, currently trains under the world champion Caio Terra, and does what he does best. Alexandre was the head Jiu-Jitsu instructor at Ken Shamrock’s Lion’s Den before he decided to open his own BJJ school in Reno, NV.
