OUR ACADEMY
South Reno's Only Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy
Gracie Humaita Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has trained the Reno community in authentic Gracie-lineage BJJ since 2016. Our South Reno academy at 9333 Double R Blvd, Suite 1100 is the only gym in the area offering direct Gracie Humaita curriculum — the same system taught in over 40 countries and used by law enforcement and military professionals worldwide.
We’re located in the Double R Business Corridor — just 5 minutes from Damonte Ranch, 7 minutes from Double Diamond and South Meadows, and a short drive from Steamboat, Galena, and SE Reno. Our students also come from Midtown Reno, the University area, and across the Truckee Meadows.
Head Instructor: Our academy is led by Professor Alexandre Gordo, a Gracie Humaita black belt with over 20 years of Jiu-Jitsu experience. Every class is taught by credentialed BJJ instructors — never fitness coaches teaching martial arts on the side. Meet our instructor →
Two Locations, One Membership: Your $140/month unlimited membership covers both our South Reno and Sparks academies. Train at whichever location fits your schedule — ideal for families and professionals who move between both sides of town.

Your First Jiu-Jitsu Class in Reno
No experience needed: The majority of our Reno BJJ students walked in with zero martial arts background. Our 3-class introductory program ($30) is designed to teach you fundamental Jiu-Jitsu positions, escapes, and techniques in a structured, pressure-free environment.
What to bring: Athletic clothes work perfectly for your first session. Bring a t-shirt and shorts or sweatpants. You’ll train barefoot on our clean, professional mats. Once you’re ready to commit to training, you’ll need to purchase a gi (traditional BJJ uniform) — the team can recommend the best options when you join.
Class format: Warm-up, technique instruction with a partner, and guided drilling. You’ll practice real Jiu-Jitsu from day one — not calisthenics disguised as martial arts. Our instructors and upper belts actively coach beginners through every position.
Schedule flexibility: We offer morning (12 PM), afternoon, and evening (6:15 PM) BJJ classes Monday through Saturday. GI and No-GI sessions available throughout the week. View the full Reno class schedule →

Women’s Self-Defense & BJJ — Reno
Jiu-Jitsu was engineered for smaller practitioners to control larger opponents using leverage — not strength. Our women’s self-defense program in Reno teaches practical escape techniques, positional control, and submissions in a supportive environment. Many female students describe BJJ as the most empowering training they’ve experienced.
WHY BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU
Why Jiu-Jitsu Is the #1 Self-Defense System
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is the martial art trusted by the FBI, US Army Special Forces, and police departments nationwide for close-quarters self-defense. Unlike striking arts that depend on size and speed, BJJ uses leverage, body mechanics, and technique to control opponents on the ground — where statistics show most real confrontations end up.
Research in the National Institutes of Health confirms BJJ delivers measurable improvements in cardiovascular fitness, body composition, balance, cognitive function, and mental health — including significant reductions in anxiety and stress. Our Reno students consistently report that Jiu-Jitsu training transforms not just their fitness, but their confidence and mental clarity in everyday life.
At Gracie Humaita Reno, you learn the same proven system used by professionals — taught by credentialed black belt instructors in a family-friendly, ego-free academy serving South Reno, Damonte Ranch, Double Diamond, and the greater Truckee Meadows.

Unlike striking arts, you can train BJJ at full resistance safely.
We offer 3 introductory classes for just $30 — giving you a genuine feel for Jiu-Jitsu training rather than a single drop-in. This gets applied to your first month if you enroll. Schedule your trial class at either our Reno or Sparks location online.
