KIDS PROGRAM
Reno's #1 Kids Jiu-Jitsu Program
Our kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program in Reno teaches children ages 4–13 authentic Gracie self-defense techniques in a structured, fun, and supportive environment. Unlike generic kids’ martial arts programs, our curriculum comes directly from the Gracie Humaita lineage — the family that created BJJ — and is adapted specifically for young learners.
Our South Reno academy at 9333 Double R Blvd, Suite 1100 is located in the Double R Business Corridor — just 5 minutes from Damonte Ranch, 7 minutes from Double Diamond and South Meadows, and a short drive from Steamboat, Galena, and SE Reno. Families also come from Midtown, the University area, and across the Truckee Meadows.
Two Age Groups, Proper Instruction: Our Kids 4–9 and Kids 10–13 programs ensure your child trains with appropriate partners and receives age-appropriate coaching. Classes balance structured Jiu-Jitsu technique with engaging drills that keep kids motivated and excited to come back.
Dual-Location Access: Your kids’ membership includes training at both our South Reno and Sparks academies — giving Reno families maximum scheduling flexibility throughout the week. View the full kids class schedule →

RENO KIDS BJJ
Kids Jiu-Jitsu Programs by Age Group
Kids 4–9: Little Champions BJJ — Reno
Our youngest Jiu-Jitsu students learn foundational BJJ movements, basic self-defense positions, and partner coordination through structured games and technique drills. At this age, the focus is building body awareness, listening skills, and confidence — while planting the seeds of real Jiu-Jitsu technique that they’ll carry into the upper program.
Parents across Damonte Ranch, Double Diamond, and South Meadows consistently report their kids show improved focus at school, better emotional regulation, and a new sense of self-confidence within just weeks of starting. The CDC recommends 60+ minutes of daily physical activity for ages 6–17 — our classes exceed that while building life skills no traditional sport can match.
Classes for ages 4–9 at the Reno academy: Mon–Thu 4:30 PM, Sat 10 AM. Try 3 kids classes for $30 →
Kids 10–13: Junior BJJ — Reno
Our pre-teen program builds on the fundamentals with more technical Jiu-Jitsu instruction — including takedowns, guard passing, submissions, and escape sequences. Students at this age develop real sparring ability in a controlled, supervised environment. The belt progression system gives kids 10–13 clear goals to work toward, building discipline and work ethic that transfers directly to academics and other activities.
This is the age where anti-bullying confidence becomes especially valuable. Kids learn not just how to defend themselves, but the emotional composure to de-escalate situations — a skill that Reno parents value highly. Classes for ages 10–13 at the Reno academy: Mon–Thu 5:15 PM, Sat 10 AM.
Why BJJ Over Other Kids Activities in Reno
Unlike striking-based martial arts, Jiu-Jitsu allows children to practice techniques at full resistance safely — no punching or kicking means fewer injuries and a more positive training experience. And unlike team sports where kids can hide on the bench, BJJ requires every child to engage, problem-solve, and persist through challenges individually — building resilience and self-reliance that carries into every area of life.

WHY KIDS JIU-JITSU
What Reno Parents See After Kids Start BJJ
Parents who enroll their children in Jiu-Jitsu consistently report the same pattern: within the first month, their kids show improved focus at school, better behavior at home, and a quiet, genuine confidence that wasn’t there before. This isn’t accidental — it’s built into how BJJ is taught.
Jiu-Jitsu requires children to solve physical problems in real time, listen to instruction, respect their training partners, and persist through challenges. These aren’t lessons you can teach with a lecture — they’re developed through direct experience on the mat. Research confirms that martial arts training improves cognitive function, emotional regulation, and social skills in children across all age groups.
At our South Reno academy, your child learns from credentialed Gracie Humaita instructors who specialize in youth development — not part-time coaches running a side program. Families across Damonte Ranch, Double Diamond, South Meadows, Steamboat, and the greater Reno area trust us with their children’s growth on and off the mat.

What Reno Parents Say About Kids BJJ

We couldn’t be happier with our experience at Gracie’s Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. This place is the real deal.
Coach Alex is one of the best instructors I’ve seen. He has a rare ability to connect with kids. He expects respect and discipline, but balances it perfectly with a great sense of humor that keeps them engaged and excited to be there. The kids are learning real skills while genuinely having a great time, which is not easy to pull off.
What stands out most is the culture. It is positive, structured, and focused on growth, both on and off the mat. You can tell they are not just teaching jiu jitsu, they are building confidence, character, and accountability.
I am especially grateful we found this place. It has become more than just a gym for our family. Other family members train here as well, and it is something we all look forward to. That says a lot.
If you are looking for a place that will challenge your kids, build discipline, and still make it fun, this is it. Highly recommend.
Through all of our ups and downs Alex has always had out backs. All of the teachers are kind, personable, patient, and warm hearted ❤️

The school and its students are also very welcoming. Everyone is respectful and supportive, so it never feels intimidating even when you’re new. The teaching is solid and you can tell it comes from a real Gracie foundation—very focused on technique, control, and understanding the details. BJJ focuses on ground control and submissions using leverage — not strikes. This means kids can practice techniques at full intensity safely, which accelerates learning. BJJ also emphasizes problem-solving and adaptability rather than memorizing choreographed forms, building critical thinking skills that Reno parents see transfer directly to academics.
