Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Techniques

Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art that was created by the Gracie family in Brazil. It is based on the traditional Japanese art of Jujutsu, but with some added techniques and principles. Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is known for its effectiveness in self-defense, and for its focus on grappling and ground fighting.

Techniques for Grappling and Ground Fighting

There are many different techniques that can be used for grappling and ground fighting. Some of these include:

The Guard Position – This is a position where you are lying on your back on the ground, with your legs wrapped around your opponent’s waist. From this position, you can control your opponent, and prevent them from attacking you.
The Mount Position – This is a position where you are sitting on top of your opponent, with your legs straddling their waist. From this position, you can control your opponent, and deliver strikes.
The Side Mount Position – This is a position where you are lying on your side on the ground, with one of your legs wrapped around your opponent’s waist. From this position, you can control your opponent, and deliver strikes.
The Rear Mount Position – This is a position where you are sitting on your opponent’s back, with your legs wrapped around their waist. From this position, you can control your opponent, and delivery strikes.
The Standing Grappling Position – This is a position where you are grappling with your opponent while both of you are standing. From this position, you can take your opponent down to the ground, or deliver strikes.

Each of these positions has its own advantages and disadvantages, and it is up to you to learn how to use them effectively in order to defeat your opponent. We couldn’t be happier with our son’s experience at Gracie Jiu-Jitsu! Professor Alex is fantastic with the kids and does an amazing job creating an environment where they can learn, have fun, and build confidence. Over the past few months, we’ve seen a huge increase in our son’s confidence, both on and off the mat. He absolutely loves training and, if he had it his way, he would be there five days a week! The kids get great one-on-one attention, and it’s clear that the instructors genuinely care about helping each child improve. We absolutely love Gracie Jiu-Jitsu in South Reno! The professors and coaches are amazing with the kids. They make every class both educational and fun while teaching important values like respect, discipline, confidence, and practical skills to help kids protect themselves. Gracie Humaita Brazilian Jiu Jitsu provides a top tier experience for all ages! My son, Max, does Jiu Jitsu classes and I can honestly say all kids should have martial arts experience. It has been incredible to watch him go from a shy, timid kid to being bolder, more confident, and developing at not just Jiu Jitsu but as a young man. Coaches provide a great class that is structured, promotes respect and responsibility, teamwork and strong Jiu Jitsu technique. Max is always ready to go to class, our first sport where he’s never said “I don’t want to go today”. Gracie Humaita Jiu Jitsu in Sparks and Reno, is absolutely outstanding in every way! I didn’t know that I needed this until I made the decision at 59 years old and recently retired that I was going to do something I have always wanted to do. I can say without hesitation that this is your place if you want to learn new skills, improve your stamina, coordination, technique, and mental sharpness. Professor Garcia and his team are exceptional coaches who are incredibly patient, knowledgeable, passionate, and super fun to train with. Regardless of age or skill level, you will find the program to be exactly tailored to your level. This is also a very family friendly environment where you can be sure that any member of your family will receive the support and training they need.
