Kids Martial Arts & Jiu-Jitsu in Reno & Sparks
Are you searching for kids’ martial arts in Reno or Sparks? Gracie Humaita Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is Northern Nevada’s highest-rated academy, with dedicated kids’ jiu-jitsu programs at two convenient locations — South Reno near Damonte Ranch and Sparks near Spanish Springs.
Our kids’ jiu-jitsu program teaches real self-defense, builds confidence and discipline, and gives children a positive outlet that carries into every part of their life. We offer separate age-appropriate classes — Little Champions for ages 4–9 and Junior BJJ for ages 10–13 — so every child trains with peers at their own level.
One membership gives your child unlimited access to both locations. Train at whichever academy is more convenient — or both. Try 3 introductory classes for just $30.

Why Reno & Sparks Parents Choose Gracie Humaita
With 430+ five-star reviews, Gracie Humaita is the highest-rated kids’ martial arts program in Northern Nevada. Unlike chain studios, we teach authentic Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under the lineage of the family that founded the art — the same proven system taught worldwide.
Your child trains with certified Gracie Humaita instructors who specialize in youth development — not just adult black belts running a kids class on the side. Every session is designed to build technique, character, and love for the sport.
Two locations means more flexibility for busy families. Drop off in South Reno on weekdays and Sparks on weekends — or train at both. One membership covers everything.
Little Champions
Built around how younger kids learn — through movement, games, and repetition that doesn't feel like drilling. Children develop foundational jiu-jitsu skills like balance, body awareness, and basic self-defense. Every class reinforces listening, emotional control, and respect.
45+ min classes · Belt progression · No experience needed
Junior BJJ
The pace picks up and technique goes deeper. Students learn real Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu technique, live positional drilling, and controlled sparring in a safe, supervised setting. This is where anti-bullying confidence stops being a talking point and becomes something they actually feel.
45+ min classes · Live sparring · Competition optional

What Parents See After Just a Few Weeks
💪
Improved Physical Fitness
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu provides a full-body workout. Kids build agility, strength, flexibility, and coordination through dynamic training — and they’ll choose the mat over screens.
🛡️
Real Anti-Bullying Confidence
As children master self-defense techniques at both our Reno and Sparks locations, they develop a sense of personal safety and empowerment that carries into school, friendships, and every part of life.
🎯
Discipline & Focus
Following instructions, respecting Instructors and peers, and training in a structured environment improves concentration and attention span — both on the mat and in the classroom.
🧠
Problem-Solving Skills
Known as “human chess,” BJJ encourages strategic thinking. Children learn to analyze situations, predict moves, and make quick decisions under pressure — skills that translate far beyond the mat.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Kids Jiu-Jitsu in Reno & Sparks — FAQ
We offer 3 introductory classes for just $30 so your child can try it risk-free. After the trial, unlimited kids’ jiu-jitsu at both our Reno and Sparks locations is $140/month. One membership covers everything — train at either or both locations. Contact us with any questions about pricing.
Absolutely. BJJ is one of the safest martial arts for children because there is no striking — no punching, kicking, or head contact. Training is controlled, and our certified Gracie Humaita instructors supervise every session closely. Kids learn at their own pace and always have the option to “tap out” if they feel uncomfortable.
This is one of the top reasons parents enroll their children. BJJ teaches kids how to defend themselves without throwing punches — they learn to control situations calmly and confidently. More importantly, the confidence they build on the mat means they’re less likely to be targeted in the first place. See what other parents say in our reviews.
Kids classes run Monday through Saturday at both locations. Check the full class schedule for exact times — we offer separate time slots for ages 4–9 and 10–13. Our Reno academy is at 9333 Double R Blvd and our Sparks academy is at 5275 Vista Blvd.
Just comfortable athletic clothes — shorts/sweatpants and a t-shirt. Kids train barefoot. No special equipment is needed to start. After the trial period, your child will get a gi (BJJ uniform). Schedule your child’s first class at either our Reno or Sparks location.
Traditional martial arts like karate and taekwondo focus on striking — punches and kicks. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu focuses on grappling, control, and submissions using leverage instead of strength. For kids, this means they can train at full intensity without the injury risk of striking arts, and the skills work in real-world situations regardless of size.
